II.  Catalog Description:

Special topics classes are not listed in the catalog.

III.  Course Purposes and Goals:

This course is designed to develop the functional skills necessary to use the piano as a teaching tool in elementary and secondary classrooms. It covers the same material as MUS 111-112, 211-212, but in a private lesson rather than a class setting.

IV.  Course Policies

Attendance is required at all lessons.  The student must notify the instructor in advance by phone if a lesson will be missed.  Grades will be lowered by 1/2 grade after two absences.  It is expected that the student will practice the piano at five hours a week.  Attendance at the Wednesday 3:00 piano studio class is encouraged but not required.

V.   Learning Activities

Abilities:
A final performance in the Wednesday studio class meets the following VCSU Abilities and Skills:
Ability - Communication, Skill - Performance, Level 2

VI.  Evaluation:

Students are evaluated by the instructor on preparation and progress displayed at the weekly lesson and during performances.  It is expected that students will be well prepared at every lesson and during all performances.
