Diana Skroch

Fine Arts Division Chair; Professor

A member of Music Teachers National Association since 1976, Dr. Diana Skroch holds state and national certification (Permanent Professional Certificate). Within her local association (Valley City Music Teachers Association), she has served as President, 2000-2001; Vice President and Program Chair, 1994-1997; and Secretary, 2004-2006.

As a member of the state board, (North Dakota Music Teachers Association), Skroch has held the positions of President, 1998-2000;Vice President/Competitions Chair, 1996-1998; College Faculty Chair, 2003-present; Commissioning Chair, 1998-2000; Newsletter Editor, 1998-2000; Foundation Chair, 2000-2002; Collegiate Performers Forum Chair, 1981-1987; Collegiate Artist Auditions Chair, 1990-1992; Competitions Site Chair, 2006, 2008; and Rally Adjudicator. In addition, she chaired the 1995 and 2002 North Dakota Music Teachers Association Conventions held in Valley City.

For MTNAs West Central Division (CO, IA, KS, MN, MO, NE, ND, SD), Skroch held a three- year term as Coordinator of Junior Competitions (2001-2004) and completed two terms as Chair of Competitions (2004-2006, 2006-2008).

During approximately twenty-five years as a private teacher, Skroch was an active member of the Nationally Federated Music Clubs. Her studio club, the Keyboard Kats, participated in annual festivals and Skroch frequently adjudicated in other districts. Skroch served as North Dakota Junior Festivals Chair from 1979-1983 and SouthEast Central Festivals Co-Chair from 1980-1987. Since 2006, she has been VCSUs Collegiate Advisor for NFMC.

Skroch was for many years an adjudicator for the National Guild of Piano Teachers. She has held individual membership in the National Association of Schools of Music and in Music EducatorÔ's National Conference, serving as VCSU Student Chapter Advisor.

Skroch held the position of President of the Valley City Area Concert Association from 2002-2005. She is now membership chair and VCSU liaison for that organization.

Her numerous pedagogical presentations have included such topics as: The Adult Student, MTNAs Competitions, Preparing the Student for the College Music Program, Learning Styles: Creating Our Personal Profile, Learning Styles: Implications for Repertoire and Memorization, The Piano Music of Francis Poulenc, Memorization, Membership in Professional Organizations, Russian Music in the Romantic Period, Contemporary Russian Music, Adjudication, and Female Images in Popular Music.

Skroch earned the Ph.D. in Music Education/Piano Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma; the M.A. in Music from the University of North Dakota; and three B.A. degrees from Valley City State University (Music, Art, and Spanish). Currently, she is Professor of Music and Chair of the Division of Fine Arts and Department of Music at Valley City State University, North Dakota.
