van Gijssel, Hilde

Assistant Professor of Science

I was born and raised in the Netherlands. Before I ended up in Valley City in August 2002 as an Assistant Professor in Biology, I worked for 11 years in research in the area of Toxicology. Between 1991 and 1999 I worked at the Leiden University in Leiden, The Netherlands (the oldest University in the country, 1575). From 1999 till 2002 I have worked at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD. This research experience comes in handy in the VCSU Undergraduate facility where I run the Toxicology lab. This lab is funded by the ND INBRE grant. The goal of the grant is to stimulate Biomedical Research in North Dakota. ND INBRE is funded by the National Institutes of Health. At any given time several student are involved in the resaerch

In my spare time, I like to bowl, listen to music, do Irish step dance and learn to play the Irish fiddle. I volunteer for Hospice and the Soap Box Derby in Valley City.
