  • North Dakota BRIDGES Project 1990-1999
    • Involved in the North Dakota BRIDGES Project since its inception in 1990. This grant activity, funded primarily by the Carnegie Corporation and directed by the University of North Dakota, has been instrumental in 1) establishing state endorsement criteria for those who plan to teach in the middle grades and 2) promoting reform of educational practices in North Dakota middle schools.
    • Conducted several in-service workshops at ten sites in North Dakota.  The sessions were designed to help teachers and other interested professionals explore the implications of young adolescent development for curriculum, instruction, school organization, and delivery of services.
    • Promoted state reform of educational practices in the middle grades.
    • Taught graduate courses in adolescent development, foundations of middle level education, and curriculum/methods in middle level education.
    • Served as a university consultant to May-Port-Clifford-Galesburg, Wahpeton, and Agassiz Middle Schools.
    • Assisted in setting up effective school improvement plans with a focus on improving learning and ensuring success for all students.
    • Participated on a North Central evaluation team for Ben Franklin Junior High School in Fargo.
    • Initiated curriculum changes at Valley City State University to assist pre-service teachers in meeting North Dakota state endorsement criteria for teaching at the middle level.
