Assistant Professor of Music


Leesa Levy,BS Music Education Mansfield University. MM voice, The University of Texas, has taught elementary and secondary vocal music in US public shcools for over 10 years. From 1989 through 1999 Levy lived in Germany where she held the position of vocal pedagogue and director of vocal ensembles at the City School of Music (Franz Groethe Schule) in Weiden, Germany. While in Germany, Levy performed regularly as the featured soprano soloist with the Weiden Symphony Orchestra as well as filling engagements with other area orchestras and ensembles including the Hof Symphoniker and Munich Daimler-Benz Orchestra. As a recitalist Levy performed in the Heidelberg, Freising, and Salzburg areas and Weiden and its surrounding locale.

Pedagogically Levy met with a high level of success as many of her voice students have received placement as vocal music majors in conservatories and universities in Weimar, Munich, and Wuerzburg, Germany and Salzburg, Austria, as well as professional music schools in Bavaria, Germany.

While in Grafenwoehr, Germany, Levy expanded the Chapel/Community choir into a multi-ethnic choral group that presented Christmas and Pentecost performances. Standard repertoire for the ensemble included Handel's 'Messiah', John Rutter's Magnificat, as well as contemporary and traditional seasonal music.

Levy is currently Director of Choral Activities and Voice Instructor at Valley City State University in North Dakota. She has adjudicated at numerous regional and state music festivals since accepting the position at Valley City in 1999. Levy also teaches voice through the VCSU Community School of the Arts. Levy's students have consistently placed well in NDNATS, MTNA and NDMTNA vocal competitions and auditions.

Levy has worked as music director for the Valley City Community Theater production of "The King and I" in July, 2000, and the LaMoure County Summer Theater production of "The Sound of Music" in 2001. She is also active in assisting local church and volunteer groups with music and music theater productions.

In addition to her activities at the collegiate and public school levels, Levy is a Vice President of the Valley City Music Teacher's Association, Collegiate Membership Chair for the North Dakota chapter of Music Teachers National Association, and Membership Secretary for the North Dakota chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Levy is a DMA candidate in voice at North Dakota State University
