Biography
Dr. Leesa Levy: BS composite music education (Mansfield State University, PA), MM Vocal Performance (The University of Texas at Austin), DMA in vocal performance (North Dakota State University, ND). Levy taught secondary vocal music in western New York, and elementary and middle school music for the DoDDS system in Germany (12 years total). She has studied with Dr. Robert Jones, Eugene Jones, Darlene Wiley, David Garvey, Gerard Souzay, and has coached with Helene Schmidt, Helmut Dotzauer, Bruno Leoff and Walter Berry.

While in Germany, Levy also held the position of vocal pedagogue and director of vocal ensembles at the City School of Music (Franz Groethe Schule) Weiden, Germany from 1992 through 1997. Levy performed regularly as the featured soprano soloist with the Weiden Symphony Orchestra as well as filling engagements with area orchestras and ensembles including the Hof Symphoniker and the Munich Daimler-Benz Orchestra. As a recitalist, opera and oratorio singer, Levy performed in Heidelberg, Freising, and Salzburg areas, and Weiden and its surrounding locale.

Pedagogically Levy has met with a high level of success as many of her voice students have received placement as vocal music majors in conservatories and universities in Weimar, Munich, and Wuerzburg, Germany; Salzburg, Austria; Alaska, North Dakota and Massachusetts as well as professional music schools in Bavaria, Germany. Levy's students have also placed well in the Jugend Musiziert vocal competitions in Germany and MTNA and NATS competitions in North Dakota. While in Grafenwoehr, Germany, Levy expanded the Chapel/Community choir into a multi-national choral group which presented Christmas and Pentecost performances. Standard repertoire for the ensemble included Messiah by Handel, and Magnificat by John Rutter, as well as contemporary and traditional seasonal music.

Since August of 1999, Levy has held the position of Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Voice at Valley City State University, Valley City, ND. Under her direction, the VCSU Concert Choir and University Singers have grown in strength and musicianship and have toured throughout North Dakota, Oaxaca Mexico, New York City, the Netherlands and England. In addition to her teaching and studies she is active as a recitalist, adjudicator, guest conductor, summer music camp instructor, and presenter at music conferences. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (Vice President for North Dakota), and the American Choral Director's Association (President for North Dakota).
