Nicholaus Meyers

Assistant Professor of Music

Nicholaus Meyers, a native of Georgia, is currently Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Professor of Percussion at Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota, Drumline Instructor for the Gold Star Marching Band at North Dakota State University, and the Drumline Instructor at Jamestown High School, in Jamestown, North Dakota. Before coming to Fargo, Dr. Meyers taught at Augusta State University, Troy University, and Augusta Technical College and was the assistant band director at Lakeside High School in Evans, Georgia. Outside of teaching he has performed with the Augusta Symphony, Augusta Opera, Augusta Choral Society, Augusta Players, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, Fargo-Moorhead Opera, Oakridge Symphony, Three Sides Percussion Trio, area churches, private percussion studio, taught percussion at the International Music Camp, and has been a frequent clinician. He is also a commissioned composer whose works have been performed throughout the United States and Europe. His teachers include Sigurd Johnson, F. Michael Combs, Keith Brown, Michael Katterjohn, and Christian Berg for percussion, James Popejoy, Lou Cefus and Edwin Powell for conducting, and Mark Wittgraf, Kenneth Jacobs, and Roger C. Vogel for composition.

Dr. Meyers has three degrees in percussion performance from Augusta State University (BM), the University of Tennessee (MM), and North Dakota State University (DMA).

He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), Percussive Arts Society (PAS), Society of Composers, and College Music Society (CMS). Dr. Meyers is also a Black Swamp Percussion, Vater Sticks and Mallets, and Saluda Cymbals Artist.
