Grading: Your
grade this semester will be determined based on the total points you earn.
Students concerned about grades need to put in the time and effort during the
semester. There will be no extra
assignments/projects at the end of the semester for extra credit to increase
your grade no matter how close a student is to that next highest grade. **There will be eight in-class exercises, but
the lowest two scores on those exercises will be disregarded, leaving some
flexibility for excused absences.

Periodic Exams: The five periodic exams during the semester will test your knowledge
and understanding of the material in the chapters indicated. These exams will
consist primarily of problems similar in nature to the exercises and problems
we discuss in class. In addition, about
30 percent of each exam will be multiple-choice questions. The class will meet during final exam week either to complete the
final exam or to discuss the final exam and your final grades.
Class Attendance and Participation: Students
are expected to attend class and be prepared to actively participate. Students may be required to present exercises
and problems in class. Truly
understanding a topic requires sufficient understanding to explain it to
someone else and that level of understanding requires effort on the part of
students. That level of effort is
expected.
Ability/Skill Level:
The relevant ability for this
class is Problem Solving and the skill and level are Gathering
Information/Level 4.
Portfolio Project:
There is no project in this
class that qualifies for inclusion in the student portfolio required for
graduation.
Warning: Be sure to read each chapter before we
discuss it in class. The average
student workload is one hour of work per week outside of class for every hour
we meet in the classroom. Therefore,
expect to spend 3 hours per week on this course outside of class.
