Shannon Vanhorn

Director Distance Learning & Faculty Development / Professor

Hello! I am currently in my ninth year at VCSU, where I am an Assistant Professor. I teach both face-to-face and online communication (performance, human, and media) and writing courses, as well as graduate courses in Education for VCSU's Graduate School. I am about to become the Co-Chair of the National Communication Association's Human Communication Technology Division. Currently, I am the chair of the Central States Communication Association's Instructional Resources Interest Group. I am also a member of the Communication, Speech, and Theater Association of North Dakota. I have co-authored articles that have been published in Communication Quarterly, Qualitative Research Reports, Argumentation and Advocacy, and the North Dakota Speech and Theater Journal, as well as in a book, and I have author a chapter in another book. I present regularly at NCA, CSCA, and CSTAND conferences, and have also presented at ICA and ECA conferences.

I am originally from Hillsboro, ND. I am married and have two sons, ages 26 and 19, and a daughter, 18. My 19-year old has Asperger's Syndrome, so life is always interesting at our house. In my spare time (HA!), I dabble in flower gardening and raising Koi and various types of goldfish in our four fish ponds. As a family, we enjoy going to the family lake cabin on Big Cormorant Lake in Minnesota.

And yes, I live in Fargo and travel back and forth to VCSU.
