- 11:00 - 12:00 Special Guest Presentation: Openness as a Catalyst for Online Education (delivered via Wimba Classroom)
- Like most technology the Web has proven itself to be a transformative in many areas of individual and societal life, resulting in cultural shifts that challenge traditional conceptions of education. Indeed, some argue that educational institutions are threatened with extinction for failure to adapt, despite our best efforts to deliver “e-learning”. Open education seeks to realize the goals of education while aligning with cultural shifts that favor openness, sharing, and digital identities. This presentation describes current open education projects, licenses, and tools while engaging participants in dialog on our changing culture. We’ll cover basic strategies you can use to discover, reuse, remix, create, and share open educational resources as part of your normal practice.
- Presenter: Jared M. Stein is Director of Instructional Design Services for Distance Education at Utah Valley University, where he oversees the design and development of technology-enhanced course content, tools, and environments. He has over a decade of experience designing, developing, and delivering distance education through ever-changing online learning environments. Jared has long-running professional experience in Web development, an academic background in education and learning design, and continues to teach courses on web design both in the classroom and online.
